11 or Goal #1...

I am almost at goal #1 (which is to get to 200lbs).

Its been tough but once I get to 200, I am then only 20 more lbs till I get to my first ideal weight of 180. I know I can do it...

I am now hovering at about 201lbs. It doesnt help that today was a "cheat day".

10 or Taking a break...

I have decided to take a break from roller derby. It was a hard decision but I need to concentrate more on school right now. I am falling behind in my classes and I don't want to fail any classes this year. I failed enough classes last year. I am coming back in December but in the mean time, I am going to be working out as often as possible. I have been sick since I came back from Portland for regionals... It has put a damper on my working out goals...

As I write this, I am hovering at 204lbs... Which is much better then being at 218 like I was back in the summer...

9 or Adventure is out there

I am off to ride the bike. I think I will venture towards Sac State then head to Target to get the bf new shoe laces since he broke his this morning getting ready for work. I hope the ride is at least 10 miles!!! I need the fresh air.

8 or Lackluster preformance

One of the best things about going to Sac State is the fact that there is a huge state of the art gym/ fitness center on campus. During the regular semester, I can go to "The Well" for free (since it is included in the price of my oh so wonderful tuition that keeps on going up each freaking semester) but since I am not enrolled in any classes during the Summer, I have to pay about $20something each month. I have been going to The Well every day that I can. The only days that I have not gone was on days that are roller derby practice days.

7 or "Why?"

For the past few months, I have been riding my bike as often as I can. Last month, I rode about 90 miles and this month, I am closing in on 100 miles. A few days ago during practice a teammate asked me why I have been biking as much as I have. The past few weeks, I have biked about 90 miles on a silly single speed bike. To be honest, I bike so I can become stronger and a more powerful roller derby player.

6 or "Workin' on my fitness"

Since this summer has started (well, once the Spring semester ended for me at Sac State and until my Summer semester at American River College started), I have been trying to find new things to do to keep me physically active. Joining roller derby has helped to keep me active but I was looking for something else to keep me busy and something that would ultimately help me in derby. Anywho, I took a Summer class at American River College so I don't have to take it next year at Sac State. Taking a six week class for less than $80 is better then taking a 16 week class for thousands of dollars. It also helps that I live about 4 miles away from ARC, so I originally thought about taking the bus (which runs from Sac State to ARC with my home only 2 blocks from the bus stop) for a while. The problem with this idea was that I had to get to the bus stop by 715 am and I got to school at 735am leaving me with about 30 minutes to kill before my class.

I had found an old green Schwinn Collegiate bicycle last year when I was working with the US Census. I fixed it up and have been trying to bike as much as possible. In June, I biked about 80 miles. Most of it was just from school and back. This month, I am trying to make it 100 miles. I am almost there. 60+ miles down.

4 or Spreading the Love

I enjoy helping out my roller derby team in any way that I can. I am constantly taking flyers out to school and posting them any place I can. I actually have a huge stack and tomorrow after my Architecture class, I am going to post them on bulletin boards in the different halls. I am also becoming more confident in telling people in my classes that I do derby. I used to like the idea of having my real life friends and my derby friends separate from each other but, there is no fun in having split personalities. Man Ram is Manda and Manda is Man Ram. I am her. She is me. Derby is my life and my life is awesome!

3 or Hurts, don't it?

The one thing that I can always count on is my coach doing some killer work outs on us skaters. The working out that we did on Thursday night and then on Saturday afternoon are still killing my body today. I am happy with the results so far from all my training since I have started back in July. My legs are nice and strong but there are other spots that can use some help... (are you listening to me, stomach!!!) Tomorrow, I know it will not be pretty.

2 or The Gear (Part of it, atleast)

1 or The Debut of Man Ram

I gave in. I started yet another blog to chart my love and obsession for roller derby. I hope I will make my girls proud by documenting my journey.

Who am I? They call me Man Ram. Well, it was my lovely boyfriend who actually started to call me that. It started out as a joke between the two of us. Man Ram was a nickname that originally belonged to a baseball player, Manny Ramirez who played for the Boston Red Sox and most recently the Los Angeles Dodgers (the baseball team from my home town). Manny Ramirez' nickname was given to him by a sports show host on ESPN named Jim Rome. Man Ram is also the first three letters of my first and last name too, like Manny. I guess it is a portmanteau to be more accurate. Anywho, I am Man Ram. #99.
